UT Spring/Summer 2009

Uniqlo’s first store in Singapore is finally open! What’s ever better. This year’s UT collaboration list is even more exciting! With Miss Maki Nomiya (Pizzicato Five), PUFFY AMIYUMI, Creative Magazines Now (like Tokion) and of cos all time favourite record label, Modular People. Gotta start packing to make room for more tees!
Battles
It’s be a long time since I’ve posted. But this is something I really wanna share. A guy from metacritic says “If the Flaming Lips mated with Marilyn Manson and ate Underworld for breakfast, the end result might sound something like Battles’ debut album, Mirrored.”
I don’t know how to describe them. I might not be the best person to advise on music. But is this the sound. “People won’t be people when they heard this sound.”, they sang. Probably the most understated band that I’ve seen.
The son of jazz musician (with amazing voice sampling/efx), a superb guitarist, a mad-scientist with effects on bass, and ultimately a crazy endurance drummer. All in a band. Here’s the Battles
The Best Job in the World
Earn AUD$150,000 (S$156,646) to live on this island, watch whales and scuba dive.
It is the perfect job to help you forget freezing, credit-crunch Britain.
Tourist officials in Australia are looking for somebody to look after a desert island. Hamilton Island off the coast of Queensland, Australia.
Glorious: The view from the balcony of the caretaker’s three-bedroom villa
They are willing to pay AUD$150,000 (S$156,646) for someone to work 12 hours a month for six months while carrying out such duties as feeding turtles, watching whales and picking up the island’s post.
No academic qualifications are needed, but good swimming skills and a love of snorkelling, scuba diving and other water sports are a must.
A passion for the great outdoors and the ability to speak English are also considered to be an advantage.
To good to be true? Ha Ha! It’s actually a tourism campaign by Tourism Queensland for Great Barrier Reef. But the money is real tho! Btw, saw another nice campaign for Sydney Festival 2009. 30 street pianos were place on the streets…

Moet came up with the Tulip flutes. Marc Newson’s magnum set with Dom Pérignon. Now Veuve Clicquot launches their ultimate designer piece by Karim Rashid, Loveseat. Beautifully crafted. I must say champagne makers are taking design serious now. And designers are taking passion for drinks to the max.

Thank You Paul Arden

After a long illness, Paul Arden passed on earlier this month. Great loss to the creative industry and to everybody who had read his books. I had read his books over and over again, it’s ever so inspiring. I was hoping to read his new book then came the sad news. His ideas and teachings will still be with us always. Thank you Paul Arden.
